Cefaclor binds to and inhibits specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, which are essential for cross-linking peptidoglycan strands, a crucial component of the cell wall. By inhibiting PBPs, Cefaclor disrupts the cell wall synthesis, leading to the weakening and eventual rupture of the bacterial cell wall, resulting in bacterial cell death.
