Description
Hydrochlorothiazide and Irbesartan are combined in this tablet to treat hypertension. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that increases urination, reducing fluid retention and lowering blood pressure by inhibiting the reabsorption of sodium and chloride ions in the distal tubule of the kidneys. This action promotes the excretion of water and sodium, leading to a decrease in blood volume and, consequently, a reduction in blood pressure. Irbesartan, on the other hand, is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It blocks the angiotensin II receptors, preventing the hormone angiotensin II from binding to these receptors in blood vessels and the heart. Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor, so by blocking its receptors, Irbesartan causes blood vessels to relax and dilate, thereby lowering blood pressure.
- Used to improve blood flow and reduce strain on the heart and arteries.
- Used to manage fluid retention and edema associated with hypertension.
- Used for controlling high blood pressure (hypertension).
