Norethisterone is a medication designed to treat menstrual disorders and irregular menstrual cycles. This synthetic hormone suppresses the release of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus, reducing ovarian production of estrogen and progesterone. This effect inhibits ovulation and development of the uterine lining.
