Urso, which contains Ursodeoxycholic acid, has been used successfully for the oral dissolution of gallstones and the treatment of bile reflux gastritis. Furthermore, it reduces symptoms and improves hepatic enzyme levels in patients with primary biliary cirrhosis. Positive effects of treatment with Urso have also been documented in a number of other cholestatic diseases, including primary sclerosing cholangitis, various forms of hepatitis including overlap syndrome, cholestasis in patients receiving total parenteral nutrition, and in childhood cholestatic diseases such as cystic fibrosis.
